Sparkle Ponies - Sunspot, Star Dancer and Twinkler

Back when I was a kid, gifted with tons of G1 ponies, sparkle ponies were some of my favorites. I really, really, really loved them, all three of them (I only had three of the 6 : Sunspot, Twinkler and Star Hopper).

Fast forward today, being a huuuuge pony fan and still disappointed by how overlooked and ignored Luna is in ML:FiM, I decided that, damn, Sparkle Ponies are ponies that live by night, so that makes them Luna's perfect friends and subjects! I decided to update them to the Friendship is Magic style, went on sketching... and here are my first results, with some history behind my design and the character I envision for all of them.

Ah, sweet Sunspot! Bright orange with the softest pink hair, I couldn't help but see her as the big sister. She's helpful, resourceful, a real support for everypony around her. She tends to doubt herself, but hides it as best as she can behind loads of loving and cheerfulness, she tries to overcome her own insecurities by always doing more for others than she'd ever dare ask. I didn't feel like changing much of her original design, and simply gave her cuddly puffy hair to match her cuddly character. I diminished the sun's rays on her cutie mark and gave her trail-like rays to complement the sun, and compensate for the loss of rays

Star Dancer, for one, was one of the two I changed most. I switched body colors with Sky Rocket as I saw Star Dancer as a colt, and pink and blue isn't quite fitting. His cutie mark fit way more with this color scheme anyway; I chose to make the stars look more like they're dancing, instead of simply holding each other's shoulders. Star Dancer is calm, logical and intelligent, but very saddened by the loneliness night ponies live through, so he tends to mope around a bit.

Twinkler, now! She's kind of the cool girl in town, likes to look good but doesn't focus too much on it. She's very practical and has a bit of a trouble planning ahead or thinking before she speaks. Nevertheless, she's a loyal and dependable friend always ready for some more fun! Design wise, I fiddled with her stars a little, changed the shape and quantity. Apart from that, she's the only pony to date I decided to accessorize, and has quite the good looking tail ribbon!

FYI, all the Sparkle ponies had tinsel, hence the awesome colored metal-like strands they have in their manes Also, seeing as anyway Sparkle ponies wouldn't be quite animation friendly, I gave them a hoof design that was hinted in some early MLP:FiM sketches.
